The Month In Books: November

Merry December guys!
I'm so excited for this month because I just really love Christmas and I'm kinda hoping for snow, not going to lie. But then I hope for that every Christmas!
I read a grand total of 13 books in the month of November, less than usual but more than last month so wooooo!
I wasn't exactly in a reading slump this month, I was actually really excited to re-read a favourite series of mine but for some reason I just took ages to read and let myself be distracted by everything! It just took ages. It was like "I could read but then I could watch loads of episodes of Gotham.....again". Yeah. Annoying!
I'm currently in the process of planning out this months...stuff! I've got a few ideas for some blog posts as well as photos. I'm planning to do photos similar to my Halloween Reads ones over on my tumblr, but I'm struggling because I can only really think of Christmas Carol and The Snow Queen! If you have any suggestions comment me!

I'm also well aware that I'm getting a camera for Christmas because I grabbed it in Black Friday deals! Because of this, not only will my photos in the New Year be better.....but I'm contemplating finally starting to do videos. I'm a bit nervous about doing it because it's so very different from acting you know...being my awkward self with my London accent....so we'll see! I'll most likely video a December Haul of some sort or something!

In other news....I have a giveaway running over on my Instagram for a copy of Obsidian in honour of the release of Oblivion, so head on over there to check it out!

So on with the wrap up! Also, the lighting was not great for these photos but I ran out of time and had to make do!

Books Read This Month:

Touch of Frost etc is the series I wanted to re-read so badly. I just really was in the mood and figured I wouldn't be able to focus on reading anything else until I finally gave in and did it! So I made time to do it after reviewing Peregrine's Home! They're also the only books that aren't review books read from this month and as you can see....I failed at my whole "starting to read a classic a month" thing. *sigh* this month....I swear

Books Bought This Month:

As you can probably tell, I'm slowly but surely collecting all the Word Cloud Classics and Barnes and Noble Leatherbounds! I'm actually making more progress with those than my Penguin Clothbound Classics collection and English Library haha. Although, B&N have loads of leather bounds you can't get over here...damn you B&N! Unspoken and Dark Heart of Magic are next in series books and Newt's Emerald and The Archived I've heard SO much about and ya know....the author of The Archived is one of my faaaaaves!

Books Received This Month:

So I've been incredibly lucky again this month and I'm so grateful! The Masked City, Oblivion and Those Below are three of my most anticipated books! Front Lines and Drearcliff caught my eye and I love Kim Newman anyway! Front Lines is actually my first Michael Grant book, I stumbled on it on GoodReads! One In A Million boy was a surprise!

What was your month in books like?

November TBR

It's that time of month, when the review books are done and you turn to your TBR shelf or pile, depending on how unable to resist buying books you are, to decide what to read for the rest of the month.
I've been in such a re-read kind of mood, and I've been desperate to re-read a certain series that I love because it always cheers me up, so I've spent last week doing that, I'm actually typing this on Saturday and by the time you guys read this...I will have finished the re-read! Anyway, I've been procrastinating from reading for no particular reason at all, I'm not really in a reading slump so it doesn't make any sense. It's been taking me longer to read books than usual and it's annoying.
Considering I'm nearly done with the re-read I figured it was time to work out what I'm going to read for the rest of the month. I have quite the stuffed TBR shelf and it was a challenge working it out!

As you can see, I've got 6 books, two of which are the final books in my re-read, but I may or may not end up reading more than the ones I've chosen...depending on how fast I read and what other stuff I have to do!

Midnight Frost by Jennifer Estep

Midnight Frost is the fifth book in the Mythos academy series, and in my re-read. Like I said, I've been in a re-read mood anyway, and considering how things are going, I was desperate to get to this one as it always cheers me up, even if it is a liiiiiiitttlleeee bit cheesy sometimes!

Killer Frost by Jennifer Estep

Killer Frost is, obviously, the final book in the series. I'm really hoping to have finished this on Sunday, which is tomorrow for me as I'm writing this and like.....way past for you guys reading this! You'll be able to tell by when I post my Currently Reading photos if I managed it! This book doesn't half give me the feels though!

A Mad Zombie Party by Gena Showalter

A Mad Zombie Party is the surprise fourth book in the White Rabbit Chronicles series. Originally it was just a trilogy but then the author was like "here have a fourth book". I am excited to read it, really I am, and I picked it for this month because towards the end of October I actually re-read the other three, so I figured I'd read this while the last book is still semi fresh in my memory. I am kind of nervous however, considering what happened in the last book and what's probably going to happen in this. I might get really annoyed hahaha.

The Witch Hunter by Virginia Boecker

Ever since this book came out I've been itching to get hold of it, and when Halloween rolled around, I finally picked it up because ya know...Halloween. But with everything going on in October I didn't actually have the time to read the abundance of Halloween books that I wanted to, it was all review books mostly! SO, I figured I'd finally read it this month!

The School For Good and Evil by Soman Chainani

So, I won the entire trilogy in a competition last month, and I always see people raving about these books, so I figured...why not read the first one. This will probably end up with me reading the other two books right after, so I probably should have included them in this but we'll see!

At First Sight by Jennifer Lynn Barnes

This has been sitting on my TBR shelf since it came out, which is quite a while I think! I'm a huge fan of the authors books, I've read everything by her except for this....obviously, and the new The Naturals book. I'm torn with that because at the minute it's only out in hardback and all my other books are in paperback and it'll probably annoy me if I get the hardback but then I really want to read it so yeah. #BookishProblems right?!

Let me know what's on your November TBR down in the comments!

Wishing For Wednesday #36

Howdy!
This week I bring you a gem from an amazing author! Okay so this book is the first in a series by an author that I LOVE. Like seriously I love her, I was totally obsessed with her Mythos Academy books, like omg I re-read them frequently. So good. So I'm in desperate need for this to come out faster because yeah. Excitement! How awesome does it sound!?

Cold Burn of Magic

There Be Monsters Here. . .

It's not as great as you'd think, living in a tourist town that's known as "the most magical place in America." Same boring high school, just twice as many monsters under the bridges and rival Families killing each other for power.

I try to keep out of it. I've got my mom's bloodiron sword and my slightly illegal home in the basement of the municipal library. And a couple of Talents I try to keep quiet, including very light fingers and a way with a lock pick.

But then some nasty characters bring their Family feud into my friend's pawn shop, and I have to make a call--get involved, or watch a cute guy die because I didn't. I guess I made the wrong choice, because now I'm stuck putting everything on the line for Devon Sinclair. My mom was murdered because of the Families, and it looks like I'm going to end up just like her. . .

Cold Burn Of Magic is out April 28th, pre-order your copy....here!
Add it to your TBR....here!

Top Ten Tuesday: Heroines

Okay, so this is my first time doing Top Ten Tuesday, and I probably picked the hardest week to join, I mean...10....how can I narrow it down!? You're probably about to see a certain pattern in genre now haha! This is hosted by The Broke And The Bookish! I'd have linked them in the little title picture below, but I'm technologically challenged and couldn't work it out....sorry!

(In no particular order by the way, I'd be here all week if I did that!)

1. Celaena Sardothien- Throne Of Glass
Okay, so the Throne Of Glass books are one of my favourite series, and I love them so much, and Celaena was just too awesome, and I loved her from the first page. I can't wait to see what happens to her next and where she goes. I pretty much want to be her to be honest, she has mad fighting skills.

2. Lucy Hamilton- The Drake Chronicles
Lucy, oh Lucy, how I love you, she's badass, she has hilarious aim, and she makes me laugh out loud in public places, and refuses to be a damsel in distress. I'm waiting for the day she gets her own spin off with baited breath!

3. Alexandria Andros- The Covenant
So I'm not quite sure how to word this, but I think this is one of the first YA's I read, I stumbled on it on Amazon along with Drake Chronicles, and I instantly loved not only the books, but Alex as well. I loved Alex instantly because she's a badass, but she's not perfect and it made her more real, not to mention the fact that she is the snark Queen. And the way she can just take all the shit that's thrown at her and ultimately carry on.

4. Daenerys Targaryen- Game Of Thrones
I love Dany, not just cos you know....dragons, but because when we first meet her she's a young girl, pushed around by everyone else, and through the course of the books so far you see her grow and change, and become this ultimate badass who's freeing people, and she has her dragons and she's gonna burn her way to the throne.

5. Gwen Frost- Mythos Academy
So the last book in the series was on NetGalley and I got to review it so I pretty much read all the books in one go. I love the books and I love Gwen, she doesn't take shit from anyone, and she's witty and funny, and just awesome. I'm sure there's a pattern emerging here....snarky badasses.

6. Isabelle Lightwood- The Mortal Instruments
Ah Isabelle, not the main character of the story, but my favourite nonetheless. This could be slightly because my friends have told me that I look like her, but she was my Queen throughout all the  books. She kills demons wearing high heels, like hello....awesome. She's badass through and through, but also has a vulnerable side, and she's perfect omg.

7. Sydney Sage- Bloodlines
I love Sydney, quite possibly more than I love Rose from the series this book series is a spin off from. Yes I said it. She's smart, witty, and she cracks me up, and I have like the last three books left to read that I haven't got round to yet, and I can't wait to see her stick it to the Alchemists.

8. Kylie Galen- Shadow Falls
This was a hard one because I had to choose between Kylie and Della, and I love both, but Kylie I did read first so here we are. In the beginning I thought she was kind of useless and was a bit like ugh can we not, but then I grew to love her as she changed and became stronger and stood up for herself and dealt with all the crap in her life while being kinda badass with the ghost sensing skills.

9. Megan Chase- The Iron Fey
Megan is another one of those characters that you loved from the beginning, and watched develop in to a totally awesome character who takes no shit and does what needs to be done. I loved how strong she was and how she ended up being the one rescuing Ash at one point, and what she did to save everyone.

10. Paige Mahoney- The Bone Season
Paaiiiiggeeee....I instantly loved her and connected to her, she's everything I love, strong, badass and willing to do what's necessary. She doesn't take shit, and she keeps on going and trying no matter what happens. She also makes me chuckle!

Killer Frost

Killer Frost
Rating: 5/5
Buy or Borrow: BUY! ALL OF THEM
Source: ARC Courtesy of NetGalley

The final showdown between Gwen and Loki is coming. Things have been pretty quiet lately at Mythos so obviously, something bad is going to happen very soon. And when Linus Quinn shows up at the Academy, Gwen's thoughts are confirmed. The Protectorate are at the Academy to pick up and guard an incoming shipment of artifacts rescued by Logan and his father (back in Spartan Frost), the Reapers are gunning for these artifacts, or atleast, one specifically, and they need Gwen to use her tough magic to work out which one it is.

When the Protectorate go to move the artifacts to the Academy, the Reapers launch an attack to get them. They've become more daring, and more lethal. When their attempts to get the artifact are thwarted one of Gwen's loved ones is put in more danger than ever before when they're kidnapped in the Reapers bid to gain control of the artifact they need. A pretty harmless looking artifact, but looks are deceiving.

Feeling betrayed by everyone she knows and loves when they refuse to make the trade, Gwen goes rogue. She may have gotten away from Loki and his Reapers with the artifact and her loved one thanks to her daring plan, but Gwen knows it's not over.

The final battle is coming, and everyone at the Academy knows it. As the Reapers prepare to storm the gates of the Academy, everyone must make a choice...whether to stand and fight. Loyalties are tested, secrets are revealed, but can Gwen work out Nike's riddles? Can she Loki for good? And will Logan and Gwen FINALLY get their happy ending with nothing getting in the way?

Well. I 'm so sad this series is over, but I'm sure I'm not the only one to appreciate the finality of Killer Frost, even if I am sad we won't be reading about Gwen again, although there's been a door left open for Rory, so we might get to visit the world again. I've loved these books, and I've loved watching Rory grow as a character from a regular girl..well as regular as you can be with touch magic, with slight anti-social tendencies, to a fierce warrior, with friends she loves, and the fully deserving of her status as Champion.

I freely admit, there's a bit of repetition in the book with the Reapers attacking, and Vivienne always flying away on her roc, and I will admit to nearly screeching in frustration as Logan and Gwen had yet another thing come between them, although it was finally solved in this book!

I love these books because they're funny, they're relevant, they're full of action and romance. But my favourite part is the mythology. There is pretty much every type of mythology and God you can think of present in this book, and they're all blended together to create this fantastic world with rich legends and history.

Killer Frost starts roughly 2 weeks after the events in Midnight Frost, the Valentines Day Dance is coming up, and Logan and Gwen are back together but still dealing with Logan's fear of her hurting her. I love how what happened in Book 5 wasn't swept under the rug, and Logan is very realistically dealing with nearly killing Gwen, and still being wary around her. So many times something like that would be swept under the rug or fixed in the space of a page.

Relationships and loyalties are tested in Killer Frost. Logan's dad won't make the trade Viv proposes to save Gwen's Grandma, and she feels betrayed by her friends as well as Metis and co when they seem to just be about to let her Grandma die. This already puts a strain on Gwen and Logan's relationship but Gwen being Gwen she decides to go rogue to steal the candle, even though it's going to hurt her friends. We see Gwen become the strong girl we've always known her to be, independent and willing to do what she has to do to save the person she loves most. Well...slightly more than Logan. To add to the sense of hurt flying around, everyone finds out Gwen's mission from Nike is to kill Loki and she's the only one who can. So it's safe to say, the drama is not held back!

I love the friendships Gwen has with Daphne, Oliver and so on, and it really is satisfying to see friendships you've watched grow and develop in to this amazing friendship we have now between Daphne and Gwen.

I love all the characters, they've all grown and changed and dealt with their fair share of crap. Each character is full of depth and can stand alone. We have Daphne, the former mean girl, who knows Gwen well enough to know it's time to crack out the catsuit and grease paint, and enlist the other's in their friendship group to help out with Daphne's plan to help Gwen's plan. We have Oliver, full of jokes, but loyal to Gwen until the end, their friendship was truly beautiful to watch come to fruition in this book. We have warrior bard Carson, far more badass than any supposed Geek has any right to be. We have Alexei, boyfriend to Oliver, and the newest addition to Gwen's group, and as graceful as a dancer when fighting. And finally Logan, Gwen's boyfriend, the resident badass who can kill you with a paperclip, but is protective and gentle to Gwen.

This book is as much about friendship as it is about Gods and Goddesses, myths and legends and battles, and each friendship has been written and developed beautifully, and I choked up really badly when Gwen finds out they all knew she had a plan and where ready to help her with it.

I feel I should also mention that Nickamedes and Gwen FINALLY HUGGED. It totally happened. Cue more choking up from me. I loved how Nickamedes get's some love, and he and Metis get together, in my opinion it should have happened forever ago but it just added to the perfect ending.

In Killer Frost all the clues come together, every riddle and comment Nike has made all makes sense. Self-sacrifice. That's the theme of Killer Frost. It's what defeats Loki, along with free will, and it's what saves Gwen when Nickamedes makes his own sacrifice.

All the questions you've ever had about the book are answered, and I was especially eager to find out what the deal was with Raven. Directly after finding out who Raven really is, I am left with the feeling of truly wanting to slap myself for not working it out sooner! It's not like there weren't enough clues! Not to mention we find out about the Guardians!

Killer Frost is fast paced, and very action-centric, which is obvious with the whole warriors and final battle thing, and the writing flowed smoothly. There where plenty of twists and turns to the plot, ones that I personally didn't see coming, even though I really should have, because as I've said before, there are clues everywhere in the other books. Viv and Gwen's smack talk could use some work, it was a tad cliche and samey to the other books, but it didn't really take away from the story for me.

Everything is wrapped up nicely, there's nothing left unanswered and the ending is quite final. I was sad there wasn't more romance in this book between Gwen and Logan, but their relationship came together rather nicely!

Killer Frost is an explosive and emotional end to a series that is one of my favourites. I really didn't want it to be over and I really didn't want to leave the world or the character's behind, but the ending is just so satisfying. Fans will not be disappointed.

Killer Frost is full of action, and like me, you will find yourself sitting on the edge of your seat frantically turning pages, constantly being caught off guard as you gasp and swear at the bombs constantly being dropped. Statues come alive. Gryphon's fight Rocs. Artifacts and their powers are finally revealed. Gwen and Viv showdown. And there's one final heart stopping battle that will take your breath away. You really don't want to miss it!
