Top Ten Tuesday: Ten Fairytale Retellings That I've Read/Want To Read

Hey guys, it's been a while since I've done a Top Ten Tuesday post, but now I'm not snowed under with reviews I'm hoping to start doing them again! I've come back to this on a really interesting topic! I haven't read many fairytale retellings and looking for ones I'd like to read is dangerous for my TBR!

So the topic for this week is Ten Fairytale retellings that I've read or would want to read. Like I said, I can't think of too many that I've actually read, but there are a couple I'm wanting to get my hands on, however, that still wasn't enough to make ten so I turned to GoodReads which is always reaaaalllyyyy dangerous for my TBR and my bank account. But oh well. So here we go!

1. A Court Of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J Maas
How could I not include this! A retelling of Beauty and the Beast mashed up with fey, what's not to love? And loved it I did, it's one of my favourite books and really added something to the tale to make it even more imaginative and enchanting than the original.

2. Briar Rose by Jana Oliver
I read this one a year or so ago and I got it from the library. It actually managed to surprise me which is why I enjoyed it, despite being a retelling it was fantastically original and had a great twist and ending. I keep meaning to pick up my own copy so I can re-read it but I keep forgetting.

And that's all I've read. Literally two, because I suck. Or at least those are the two that I liked so much I can remember them, I did debate whether or not to include Uprooted but I decided it wasn't really a re-telling as such, more an original based on folk lore.  The rest of my list are the ones that I want to read!

3. Wicked by Gregory Maguire
Okay, I've seen the West End show and I bought the book years ago when I went to Florida to read on the plane home. However, 12 year old me wasn't all that impressed and I started to read it, but I don't think I got very far. Either way I never finished it. I keep meaning to pick it up and finally read it all the way through!

4. Gretel and the Dark by Eliza Granville
I really, really want to get my hands on this because not only is the cover completely gorgeous, but the synopsis is intriguing beyond belief.

5. The Wrath and The Dawn by Renee Ahdieh
This is one of the books I've been super excited to get my hands on this year, I just still haven't gotten around to it yet. I've heard so many good things about it and I'm itching to read it. It's inspired by A Thousand and One Nights and I just need it in my life!

6. Crimson Bound by Rosamund Hodge
I do want to read her other retelling, Cruel Beauty, but Crimson Bound actually has me more excited than CB and sounds a bit more intriguing, so I'm hoping to get round to grabbing copies of both at some point and reading them. Cruel Beauty is Beauty and the Beast, but Crimson Bound, more interestingly, is Little Red Riding Hood and I've not actually heard of many retellings of this particular tale.

7. Princess of Thorns by Stacey Jay
I've heard such good things about this one, everyones been raving about it and I keep meaning to pick  it up and give it a go because it's Sleeping Beauty's daughter, and it's supposedly like Game of Thrones, so you can't go wrong!

8. Splintered by A.G. Howard
Again, this is another one that I've seen other bloggers raving about, most of these are to be honest. I see so many books being talked about and I always check them out. But this is an Alice in Wonderland one which is another tale that I've not seen being retold much. I'm intrigued enough to add it to my "I want to read this eventually" list.

9. Poison by Sarah Pinborough
I've been meaning to read this as well as Charm and Beauty for ages, but I still need to buy copies! I discovered these when I worked in a bookshop as the cover intrigued me and so I checked them out. This one is the first one and is a Snow White retelling, it's the one that most interests me out of the ones that I've seen!

10. Sisters Red by Jackson Pearce
I do actually have a copy of this in my possession and I keep meaning to get round to it but my review books have top priority so my own TBR is huge! It's an intriguing one and I've had it for a good couple of years but like I said...never gotten round to it!

  1. I'm also really looking forward to reading The Wrath and the Dawn - I've only heard good things about it so far! Happy reading!
