This manga series takes readers to the land of Britannia, a picturesque country ruled by the benevolent King Lyonnesse - or at least it was, until the king's guard assassinated him and started a full-blown Holy War! Now the king's only daughter Elizabeth must seek the aid of the dreaded warriors, the Seven Deadly Sins. Wrongly framed and sent into exile, they're now the princess's only hope to free the kingdom from the grip of the villainous Holy Knights! 

Quite a lot happened last volume to move the story forward with some twists and shocking moments, including one that left us with a cliffhanger so I was eager to delve into this volume. Volume 37 sees Meliodas facing off against the Demon Lord with a bit of an assist from the others and a focus on the bonds of friendship once again, which is heartwarming to see after we've come so far in the series. I like that this series doesn't lose that message no matter how many volumes it goes on. 

There's an action packed start to the volume before we eventually turn to the second problem that's imminent...Elizabeth's curse. We've had action packed volume after action packed volume, so it was a little strange for things to suddenly slow down in the middle of this volume. There's a bit of a lull after the final battle as everyone has some time to relax and hang out with each other and we visit a few familiar places. 

I was starting to feel like things had been resolved a little too quickly, but luckily some ominous threads started to weave in before a reveal that threw the seemingly happy ending out of the window. I was more than happy with that, even if I am starting to feel like this series is perhaps being dragged out a little too long, because as I said, I felt things had been resolved a little too easily. 

Just when you thought this series was close to being done, it turns out that isn't quite the case!

Estarossa continues his path of destruction with the power of three Commandments and his sights set on more. Against such terrifying strength, both his enemies and former allies realize their only chance of defeating him is to work together. Will their strategy be enough, or does the secret to victory lie with Estarossa's connection to Gowther?

Meanwhile, in Purgatory, Meliodas and Ban resolve to escape and fight their way back to the women they love. With the help of Wild, they gear up for their ultimate stand against the Demon King! 

We have an action packed volume once again, with the action taking place right from the start as our group try to reclaim the Commandments within Estarossa. Elizabeth and Co have quite the fight ahead of them, and it only gets worse as Estarossa transforms in to an even more intimidating foe. 

The volume's full of action as everyone has to throw out some new moves in order to try and defeat him, meaning this volume has a fair bit of tension to it as well as we wait to see whether or not they succeed. Alongside all of that, there's also a little bit of heartbreak in there too for some characters. 

Meanwhile, King undergoes an interesting transformation and I'm excited to see what this is going to mean for him in terms of his powers and what he can do. While we do get a look at one of his new interesting powers, I'm intrigued to see what else he's capable of now. Gowther also gets his moment to shine, which was nice to see. I was excited to get some shards of his past and some more background to he and his creation, as it's an interesting one. 

Of course, while one storyline wraps up, we rejoin Meliodas and Ban and their fight with the Demon Lord. Quite a bit of time has passed for them as they battle him repeatedly, which means we have a bit of a power upgrade. Like King, Ban's powers have morphed and changed and that's one thing about this series. Characters and their powers don't remain stagnant, they develop at a good pace to fit the story and morph at an appropriate time to fit the story.

This particular volume has no dull moments, it's action through and through with characters powers developing more for the next phase of the story and Meliodas and Ban making a return at the end of the volume ready for what's next!

After striking a deal with Meliodas, Zeldris and Estarossa set off in search of The Ten Commandments in order to turn Meliodas into the Demon Lord. Meanwhile, Elizabeth reunites with Merlin and the rest of The Seven Deadly Sins, and The Sins form an alliance with Stigma in hopes of saving Meliodas. But with Meliodas and Elizabeth striving towards the same goal, whose path is the right choice--and who will prove victorious? 

We open with chaos for multiple different characters, and Elizabeth has a resolve to save Meliodas and halt his plan! 

I have to say, the archangels seem shady to me for multiple reasons and I don't really trust them so I can't say I'm jazzed about the alliance with them and the holy knights. 

For the most part the volume is quite calm and not that much happens, we have an alliance, we have set up for the coming battle, and we check in with each character. There's also a thread of intrigue thanks to Escanor and his power and where it came from. The action picks up again as we check in with Arthur, of course he's not too impressed to find out what's going on with Meliodas but it turns out Arthur's quite the badass. We interestingly do get the backstory of the holy sword Arthur has gotten his hands on. 

However, the biggest shock of the volume came thanks to a twist involving Arthur that I didn't see coming...but probably should have. Although I'm not sure if it's the real deal or not, to be honest! 

While most of the volume focuses on setting up for the coming battle, with attack plans being hammered out and characters being moved where they need to be, there's the odd drop of action and we round out the volume with the battle about to begin, giving us something to look forward to in the coming volume!

Ban is a young, opportunistic thief, drawn to the Fairy King's Forest by the rumor that it holds the most splendid, invaluable treasure of all: the Fountain of Life. But when he meets the Saint of the Fountain, a young Fairy named Elaine, he finds the treasure he most desires may not be the one he originally came to seek. Thus begins the tale of the fated romance between Ban of The Seven Deadly Sins and Elaine, the Fairy King's sister!

This is the first in a two volume prequel series, and it's time to get the tea on Ban and Elaine. Sure we've seen flashbacks in the main series but it's time for all the details. Appropriate timing considering the role Elaine is taking in the main series! 

But it turns out it's not just Ban and Elaine, it was nice to get to see some of Helbram before he was mean, evil Helbram. It actually hit me right in the feels because we see the events with Helbram that led up to King leaving Elaine in charge of the forest and it's kinda heartbreaking. It makes Elaine's dislike for humans in the beginning more than justified. 

I liked getting to see and learn more about Elaine and Baby Ban before he was immortal, his whole attitude is so hilarious and his ale label collection...not the thing you'd picture him collecting. 

I feel like this first volume does really well at filling in some blanks, setting the scene for the next volume when things are going to heat up because we all know what happens to Ban and Elaine. We get to see the circumstances surrounding Elaine being in charge, we get to know her more as a character, and sure we've seen some bits before but this volume expands upon what we already know. I'm loving seeing them get to know each other and seeing Elaine's distrust of humans and Ban turn to intrigue. I can't wait to see them bond and grow even closer in the next volume! Ban is honestly my favourite SDS character and his entire personality and attitude always cracks me up, and I'm excited for him to finally be in the spotlight!

When they were accused of trying to overthrow the monarchy, the feared warriors the Seven Deadly Sins were sent into exile. Princess Elizabeth discovers the truth - the Sins were framed by the king's guard, the Holy Knights - too late to prevent them from assassinating her father and seizing the throne! Now the princess is on the run, seeking the Sins to help her reclaim the kingdom. But the first Sin she meets, Meliodas, is a little innkeeper with a talking pig. He doesn't even have a real sword! Have the legends of the Sins' strength been exaggerated...? 

Volume 27 picks up right when we left off, and we see that....situation, shall we say, come to a close before we're finally snapped back to the present. We've spent quite a few chapters back in the past, and I've been itching to get back to the present and see what's going on! 

King...well he's kind of like a Pokemon this volume. Our little King, evolves...or starts to at least. He's like a Bulbasaur that's levelled up to an Ivysaur. The bulb on his back has started to bloom and it's not long before he'll become a fully flowered Venusaur. Diane gets a power upgrade to, so all the Sins are united together, they're all powered up and ready to throw down. Which is the first indicator that s*** is about to get real. 

But first we have to deal with the Gowther Problem. He really is...such a creep. But I do feel for him after the revelations of last volume, and I've been intrigued to see how this is all going to be resolved. It was certainly...an interesting resolution and mini revelation! And alongside that the Boar Hat gets an upgrade too! 

Not to mention Margaret. She really surprised me this volume, she's all suited up and ready to square up and go get her man and I actually was fully cheering for her....even though I'd kind of forgotten about Gil going missing....oops. 

As we reach a certain point in this volume, everyone's ready to finally face off with the Commandments. I think that's actually the whole goal of this volume.....finish getting everyone ready, powered up and developing them more. Get them all in one place, and then everything's sorted before we start the next phase of the story. 

We end the volume with the Sins fully armoured up and heading off to Camelot because Camelot isn't in the best place and Merlin has made a rather interesting statement about Arthur, and I'm choosing to interpret that differently than a perhaps...romantically. It's made me think there's something going on with Arthur, or some vital connection she and Arthur have...which wouldn't be surprising as they're you know...Merlin and Arthur. Legends. Unfortunately, I'm kind of gutted that things are looking kind of bleak for Ban and his happiness. 

While this isn't an action heavy volume, we do get the answer to perhaps one of the biggest questions of the series...what's the deal with Elizabeth and her lookalikes!?

We pick up right where we left off and we're in the midst of a battle with two of the Commandments and the Goddesses....back in the past of course. Elizabeth steps up because she wants to fight for once and do something herself, plus she wants to save the two Commandments because...Elizabeth. She has her shining moment aided by Sariel, Tarmiel and Meliodas.  

I've said it before, and I'll say it again...Gowther is shady AF, and will never not be. I don't think I'll ever be able to trust him to be honestly. But we learn the truth of him this volume, and a side story that fills in some blanks about him and shows us a bit of young Bartra and his sister Nadja...which admittedly did hit me in the feels and I kind of do understand him but still...super shady. 

The pace for this volume is cracking, we're delving deeper in to the past and the pasts of the characters and what makes them tick. There's another cliffhanger ending and it's kind of a heartbreaking one to be honest! Luckily there's a few bonus chapters at the end that are fun and kind of soothe how you felt reading the volume! It's a battle heavy volume with a lot of blood and sad moments, but we get a real idea of what went down 3 thousand years ago.

With Meliodas out of commission after his battle with The Ten Commandments, it’s up to Elizabeth, Ban, and the rest of The Seven Deadly Sins to avenge him and bring him back. While Elizabeth, hoping to find the key that will bring Meliodas back to her, visits Meliodas’s memories, Escanor goes head-to-head with Estarossa, the Commandment of Love. Will Escanor’s pride prevail and bring him to victory, or will it lead to his downfall?

After the ending of the last volume, the wait for this one was pretty excruciating, I'm not going to lie! This volume certainly didn't disappoint either. There are some reaaaally nice parallels to how the series started, with a scary knight wandering about and showing up at the tavern. I actually really liked that whole scene, it was such a nice touch, and made me all nostalgic for the older volumes! It kind of gave a sense of how much things had changed too! 

The wandering knight heralds a giant plot twist, and I genuinely screeched "WTF?!" out loud at the reveal. I still can't even. I mean technically it's not a new character, but I can't say much else because spoilers. But said newish character is pretty hilarious and I'm looking forward to seeing more of the character in the coming volumes, as well as a certain reunion! 

With Meliodas down for the count, we get to go in to his memories and see what happened after Danafall, something I've been curious about for a long time. There's still a lot of mystery surrounding Danafall and we get a little piece filled in, as long as some background on Elizabeth. But it was nice to get to see more of Meliodas and his life, and how the Seven Deadly Sins came to be. The world and the characters are getting more and more fleshed out and little bits filled in with each of the volumes. Interestingly we get some more information on Meliodas and his curse and how it works. 

While that's all going on, everyone else is pulling together to try to fight the Commandments. We don't see much of Gil, Ban and Howser but we do get a glimpse. Escanor gets a lot of page time this volume, and he gets his badass moment...sort of! 

It really feels like we're starting afresh in this volume, a brand new chapter is beginning, the parallels to the first volume kind of underline it and it feels like everything is being manoeuvred in to place in this volume for the next stage of the story. Some pieces fall in to place with some revelations and everything's ready for the big showdown that's no doubt coming as our heroes you know...heroically fight back. We also get an intriguing little bonus story too that should prove to be interesting!

Yep it's book haul time! I've excluded my little charity book haul seeing as I did that as a separate post! I've been quite lucky on the haul front this month, and have a fair few to share!

So first up we have the books I've received from publishers, plus a late birthday present AND a book I won. Yep. Won! I'm so rarely lucky enough to win things!

The Amber Shadows by Lucy Ribchester

Ribchester is back with another fantastic historical novel, with stunning amounts of research, this time we're heading to Bletchley Park at the height of WW2! 

And I Darken by Kiersten White

One of my most anticipated reads, and one that's being described as a brutal and bloody epic feminist debut, with an anti-princess, it sounds all kinds of awesome! 

Who Killed Sherlock Holmes by Paul Cornell

So....Sherlock Holmes' ghost has casually been murdered....but who did it!? 

The Jungle Books by Rudyard Kipling

A stunning new edition from Alma Classics, and one I'm excited to review because I've not actually read the Jungle Book...shhhh!

Kill The Boy Band by Goldy Moldavsky

The synopsis for this is a bit shady, our narrator is talking about how fangirls get a bad rep, and there's mentions of loving the band to death so this should be interesting! 

The Orphan Queen by Jodi Meadows

My birthday present from Shazina and a book I've been meaning to read for ages! I'm excited to buddy read this in the Summer and get in on the hype! 

The Mirror King by Jodi Meadows

The sequel to The Orphan Queen and the book that I managed to scrape the luck to win! Shazina's birthday present is completely perfect, because I can dive in to both! 

Six Tudor Queens: Katherine of Aragon by Alison Weir

Fellow history nerds rejoice, for Alison Weir is giving us six books, one per year, one for each of Henry VIII's Queens and I am excited to dive in and get to know these ladies better, and we're starting with Queen number 1, Katherine of Aragon! I watched the Tudors, and Katherine was a complete badass the entire time, and throughout everything! 

Definitely did not forget to put these on the stack *whistles* 

Romeo and Juliet & Macbeth by John Crace and John Sutherland

These two beauties are Shakespeare as you've never seen before...understandable! If you're like me and struggle to grasp just what is going on or being said, then these are for you! The waffle is cut out, and you get the basics that you need to understand the plot. This cut back version of the plays, coupled with the notes giving you information on the Bard and the plays gives you a better understanding whether you've read the plays before or not! 

Yep, puppy sitting pays surprisingly well these days! 

I'm still frantically trying to catch up on various manga, the main one being Fairy Tail, a lottery win would really help me out right about now! Anyways, I bought these ones myself, except for the gift edition of Chamber of Secrets, that was another late birthday present! 

The School For Unusual Girls by Kathleen Baldwin

I've had my eye on this book for ages, and found it super cheap so I couldn't resist! There's romance, it's 1814, there's a school where girls are sent to become more marriageable but the headmistress has ideas, shall we say! It sounds awesome anyway! 

Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets Gift Edition

So, last year I got the Philosopher's Stone so of course I needed this, and a family member got me this for my birthday, yaaaay! I thought there was going to be one of these a year, every January with the illustrated version every October, but it would seem the Gift Editions are being rolled out 3 a year! MY BANK ACCOUNT CAN'T TAKE IT! 

Fairy Tail Volumes 5 & 6 

My main focus was on catching up Blue Exorcist because it was cheaper than Fairy Tail, so this month I only managed to get two volumes, and I read them and ugh. Volume 6 leaves off as the Phantom Lord arc is kicking off and I've seen the anime but STILL. 

The Seven Deadly Sins Volumes 5 & 6 

It was these two volumes that made me realise that the spines make a picture when put in the right order, yep, I'm that slow! hahaha! I'm starting to see some differences between the manga and anime right about now, but it's fun reading it all! 

Blue Exorcist Volumes 11, 12, 13 & 14

And with these volumes I am finally caught up on Blue Exorcist, although I read them all the other day and now I wish I wasn't caught up, I mean Volume 15 is out May so the wait isn't too bad, but the cliffhanger on 14! This manga is so different from the anime and there where some huge revelations I didn't see coming! I'm hoping there's not a bad cliffhanger for 15 because 16 isn't until December! 

Twin Star Exorcists 1, 2, & 3 

Like I keep saying...saw a few minutes of the anime...got intrigued, and ended up getting the manga. I was iffy at first, but once it got going, I became hooked, and I need volume 4! 

Seraph of The End Volume 1 

Super lucky to get 5 and 6 brand new from the charity shop for a couple of quid each...super unlucky that they didn't have any of the other volumes! So of course I had to pick up volume 1 from Waterstones so I could at least start reading it! I'm loving this one so far, it's taken some twists I wasn't expecting, it has to be said! 

DC Bombshells: Enlisted 

Guys this is my new favourite graphic novel, it's all kinds of awesome and you should all pick it up immediately! WW2, our favourite DC ladies kicking ass, glorious art and a brilliant storyline...a necessary read! I need all of the Bombshells merch, not gonna lie!

The Month In Books: April

So, is it me, or are the months going by reaaally fast?! I'm not sure I like it! 

Anyway, here we are with another wrap up for the month! There are a couple of books missing because I have books all over the place right now and keep failing to locate them! 

I actually managed to read 14 books I think this month, Jane Steele is missing though! Now everyone keeps saying to me how well I'm doing with my GoodReads challenge, I'm nearly half way I think? Well that's because of manga and graphic novels, mostly manga. You can see below how many manga volumes I read this month, I'm beginning to think I should exclude manga and graphic novels from my GoodReads challenge, I feel like I'm cheating! 

Look at all the manga I read...I can't even. But then it only takes me like 45 minutes or so to read one volume....no wonder I read so many! Honestly all of these books pictured are so original and fun and deserve a read! 

The Seven Deadly Sins Vol 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6

I love this manga series and I loved the anime, which I actually watched first! I'm beginning to see now where the anime has deviated here and there from the manga! I'm loving all the different magics and the little intrigues and so on, but it's left off in an annoying place! 

Blue Exorcist Vol 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14

Basically, I've been waiting ages for volume 9 but it got lost in the post and I've had to re-order it and it only just showed up in time for me to read all of the volumes left just before May started! I'm not all caught up on Blue Exorcist, and man was the anime waaaay off base! 

Seraph of The End Vol 1

This went in a direction I wasn't expecting, it was like...the vampires where lying and I don't know why I thought that wasn't the case but there you go! I'm intrigued to see what's going to happen in this one although I KNEW that dude was alive. I KNEW IT. 

Twin Star Exorcists Vol 1, 2, 3

I'm now one volume away from being caught up and this time I didn't know the dude was still alive! This one managed to surprise me as well, I caught the first few minutes of the anime and it intrigued me, although I was a bit iffy at first, again...I'm intrigued to see where this one is going. 

Fairy Tail Vol 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6

I love Fairy Tail okay, and reading the manga is going back in time for me because I've watched nearly all of the anime, and I'm enjoying seeing how things are or aren't different in the manga and reading back favourite scenes from the anime. This is another one with an expansive world and amazing magic!

DC Bombshells: Enlisted

This is so awesome I can't even! It's World War Two but with all our favourite ladies getting involved, Wonder Woman, Catwoman, Supergirl, Batgirl, Harley Quinn and so on and I love the art, I love the story, and I need volume two now but I can't find a release date! Even Constantine is in this! 

Harley Quinn and Power Girl

This is a bind up of the 6 volume spin off from the Harley Quinn New 52 comic series, and I finally got around to reading it...it was interesting. I love Harley Quinn, and she was brilliant in this, but this one hit a bit of a weird point! I was like okaaaayyy, this is odd! But it was still good! 

Spider-Gwen: Most Wanted

Everyone raves about this and now I can see why, I'm glad I picked it up and volume two is SO CLOSE! I just completely loved this one, I read Silk recently as well and I love both of the two so much! I haven't actually read that many Spider-Man comics, because I haven't found one I like, but I'm loving Gwen as a Spidey person! 

Mug that I am, I decided to take these photos when it was hailing one minute and sunny the next and lighting was not my friend okay! Which is why Storm and Stone is nearly whited out! These are the review books and books from my TBR that I delved in to this month! 

The Amber Shadows by Lucy Ribchester

I'm a little bit in love with Lucy Ribchester okay, I loved Hourglass Factory and I completely loved Amber Shadows. This time around it's WW2 and we're getting a nice in depth look at Bletchley Park and all that went on there, along with a nice little mystery thrown in. Ribchester blows my mind with the amount of research she does, every single time. 

Ink and Bone by Rachel Caine

You guys voted for me to read this and I'm so glad you did! I love Rachel Caine and I started reading and I was a bit like...so when's this going to get going? Nothing much was happening, but then it got better and better and things got going and I became engrossed in this book, and I need the second book now! It's so original and I was enjoying picturing the world of the book and what things would be like! 

Love Song by Sophia Bennett

Ah, my kinda guilty pleasure! I loved this, I only meant to read a chapter or two and ended up reading the whole thing in one go and getting a really late night! The soundtrack was brilliant, the romance was adorable, and the book was about so much more than the romance! 

Storm and Stone, Stung and Shaken by Joss Stirling

So, basically, I got sent Shaken to review and I decided it was time to re-read the first two books! Check out my super old original cover for the first book! I really need to re-buy it so it matches the others! Anyway, Joss Stirling is one of my favourite authors, I love her Savant series and I'm loving this series, although I can't believe we STILL haven't had Joe's story! Anyway, these ones are thrillers, there's action and mystery and SUCH CUTE romance! 

Order of The Phoenix by J.K. Rowling

I still can't believe this is the biggest Harry Potter book and my lord. I read this and then watched the movie and I can't believe that I forgot just how much had been cut from the book, I mean obviously a lot had been but still! I also hate book Umbridge a little bit more than the movie version! 

Flamecaster by Cinda Williams Chima

 I was intrigued by this book okay, but I was really surprised at how much I ended up loving it because I was a bit eh in the beginning and not really grabbed until things got going a bit in to the book, and from that point I completely loved it! There's magic and action and adventure and dodgy villains, and rich history and politics and romance and it was so brilliant, and I need to read the authors others books! 

Chasing The Stars by Malorie Blackman

Yes, I had some issues with this because of the ending, it's an open ending and I hate those, and in this case the ending was perfect except for how the romance was wrapped up, I found myself a little bit disappointed even though I'd loved the book! The insta-love thing was done in a way that didn't annoy me as much as they usually do, I think the fact one of the characters is a bit iffy about the whole thing made it seem more realistic and less..kind of...really!? If you know what I mean! 

The Silver Tide by Jen Williams

The final book in a trilogy that I have enjoyed and I'm quoted in the front of this book! JUST SAYING! Anyway, I was very satisfied with the ending for this, and I'm still a huge shipper of Frith and Wydrin. That is all haha! 

Knights of The Borrowed Dark by Dave Rudden 

Bloody brilliant, original, fun, full of action and kinda dark. I found myself getting so involved in this book it was insane. I loved all the original takes on things, how rich the lore of the book was, there where creepy bits, other bits full of action, and it leaves you wanting so much more! 

Riverkeep by Martin Stewart

This one intrigued me when it showed up as a surprise book parcel, and it had a really cool map and I liked the sound of it. I started to read it and I mean...all of the author names on the front of the proof are correct, there was a little bit of everyone in there, with the authors own voice. It was dark, it was really imaginative, and I actually found it a little bit uncomfortable to read because Wull's father reminded me a bit of my Grandad right towards the end of his illness. 

The Final Empire by Brandon Sanderson

This took me way longer to read than it should have, purely because I'm nearing a reading slump, I've completely burnt myself out! But I loved this book, I see now why everyone raves about Brandon Sanderson and I'm eager to get the other books in this series read, and then delve in to the other worlds he's created in his other books. This book was so original and had a brilliant magic system, I loved the heist vibes it had and the characters and how they worked together. It's definitely one to get lost in!
