Haruaki's summer has only just begun, and it's turning out to be anything but a vacation! Hospitalized after getting injured in a building fire, he'll be on a bumpy road to recovery as late-night medical horrors, an investigation into the mystery of how youkai are born, and a supernatural incident at Sano's part-time job won't give him a moment to relax! 

It's the start of summer break as we embark on this volume, and Haruaki obviously kicks the break off at the hospital courtesy of the last volume! We get to spend some time with the creepy doctor in this volume, as he takes quite an interest in Haruaki and his visitors Amaki and Izuna. I really did enjoy getting to see some more of Izuna, and the doctor was a fun addition to things...but don't worry the creepiness is offset by the humour! 

We got a hilarious look at each of the students summer vacations, along with Miki and the Principle and I also enjoyed how those little snippets were done. Of course we get a longer look at Haruaki's summer break as he volunteered to let Sano stay with him. There's a nice, creepy change of pace thanks to the cursed book which was enjoyable, before it descended in to hilarity pulling in some familiar faces we haven't seen a lot of, or at least in a while! 

Of course, I love mythology, legends and lore so I loved getting a lot more of the youkai mythology in this volume, particularly looking at the origins and birth of the various different types of youkai and it lead to an interesting reveal! 

However, I think my favourite part of this volume aside from the horror movie style cursed book chapters...were the chapters with Beniko at her family's B&B. Not only was it fun to spend time with Beniko and her three dads, one of whom (Kotake) cracked me up, but it was nice to get a bit of good old spooking too, reminiscent of the start of the series when they tried to get rid of Haruaki. I just love that we get to see more of some youkai than others for a volume and then for the next volume switch to a different one! I feel like the series is letting us get a good look at each of the youkai characters by doing things this way! 

Focusing back on youkai mythology and letting us get a good look at the students powers again, this volume was a slight return to the earlier volumes I feel, and we're presented with another fun and entertaining volume with hints of creepiness offset by the humour!

When Mame's dad asks Haruaki to stop by the family home for a visit, there are a few surprises waiting for him after he arrives. 

I really do love this series, it's always such a lovely dose of the ridiculous...and hilarious! I have to say, I did love getting to take a look at Mame's home and family, terrifying as it was for Haruaki. The poor guy had to be tested to see if he's a fit teacher for Mame. I mean...I'm sure we all have our own opinions on that but to be fair to him, he's trying his best! By some miracle, a 'he's the main character' kinda miracle, he survived the experience. 

Volume 6 also brings us the hilarity of getting to see Miki and Hatanaka trying to cheer up Haruaki, aided by our old friend Captain, of all people. You guys remember him right? Kidnapper kinda guy? I have to say, this little chapter started out hilarious to me and then got pretty heartwarming and it's nice to see Haruaki settling in with the other teachers as well as with the students! 

The hilarity continues with a high speed Mandragora chase and some spying on the boys of class 3 to help out another student before we head in to a 3 chapter story arc. They manage to lose Haruaki in Tokyo on a field trip, and so a search party of pretty much everyone has to be sent out. We get a familiar face, and a nice amount of tension, action and just plain drama as we finish off the volume with a strong end! 

Volume 6 is truly a mixed bag bouncing from hilarious to heartwarming to ridiculous to tension and drama as Haruaki's attempt to be a hero goes very, very wrong. I think it's safe to say Haruaki has carved himself a place with not only the students but even the teachers, although I do feel like I'm still waiting for something to happen!

It's time for Haruaki's first visit to his students' homes, and this can only mean one thing....youkai parents! Haruaki's job only gets worse as he risks his very life and nearly ends up as mandragora food in the process! This is one parent-teacher conference you won't want to miss! 

As you can probably gather from the synopsis, we have a chance of scenery this volume. Several times in fact, as Haruaki embarks on the home visits which go about as well as you would expect for him. Bless him. It's hilarious but a good opportunity to see more of some of his students that we don't usually see. 

Plus we head to Kyoto as the teachers scope it out for a school trip and I loved getting the flashbacks of Hatanaka and Miki from their school days as we get to see another side of them as young delinquents. But aside from that, I loved how they meet up and have an adventure with two of the characters and none of them has realised the people from all that time ago were them and vice versa. 

This volume provides us with a lot of different scenarios in one volume that are all linked together, and there's a tonne of hilarity. Not least the longer story arc of this volume involving the haunted school! Apparently youkai are afraid of ghosts...who would have thought!? Is Haruaki still a coward? Yes he is, but I feel like his character is coming along as he survived everything a lot better than I initially thought he would! 

I have to say, this series always brings something new to each volume to keep you interested and volume 5 is no exception, and it also shows us some other sides to the teachers!

Haruaki Abe's career as a teacher in the most unorthodox environment continues in this fourth volume of the manga series that is winning hearts around the globe! 

So....who thought it was a good idea to let Haruaki fill in as the school disciplinary patrol?! He's literally the least terrifying teacher!? The students quite literally walk all over him, not to mention the teachers vs students showdown. The first few chapters of this brand new volume kind of showcase just how pitiful Haruaki is which is kind of a downer considering he actually got to shine a lot last volume. After that start, we have one more ridiculously hilarious chapter involving a love perfume that ended up with the characters being all extra like they're in a zombie apocalypse movie. 

Then we had in to a new story arc. But fear not, it's not serious and it's the worst group of villains you've ever seen, but through them we learn of Miki's hilarious weakness. Plus one of the bad guys reveals that he knew Haruaki's ancestor who had the same power as him...and it would seem the Principal did too which explains their comments from last volume. Honestly they're dangling Haruaki's power and his ancestors in front of us and I'm still waiting to see if they're going to make it a Thing or just throw it in here and there for laughs and to add to the tension. While I'm excited at the prospect of potentially seeing the villains again, I'm more and more curious about Haruaki's relative and just what his power can do. Forever hopeful we'll get to see. 

In lighter news, Maizuka and Sano's bromance is next level and Sano finally manages to use his power correctly. Everyone give him a round of applause! We also get to meet a tonne of new youkai throughout the hijinks, which I'm always here for because I love the little descriptions we get. 

Haruaki's twin resurfaces as well, Amaaki. I was kind of hoping to see more of him because I find him hilariously opposite to Haruaki. 

Volume 4 is a ridiculously hilarious volume, each chapter may be a separate story and not a continuous arc but they are all linked together nicely. There are more hints dropped about Haruaki and his power and the Principal being obsessed with his ancestor, if there's going to be something big with it...we're building up to it slowly. Volume 4 is fun and entertaining as you can expect from this series, and it's the exact opposite of last volume when we got to see Haruaki shine. Although there's the heart warming moment the students come to check on "him" and showed his brother that really...he is cared for. Bless. Honestly this volume just reads like a comedy of errors!

Sports day has arrived, and Haruaki is preparing his students and formulating strategies to come out ahead of the other classes! What has got him so motivated...? Also, when a youkai TV station shows up to interview and follow him around for a day, Haruaki and his star-struck students all try to look their best, but inevitably, things don't go quite as planned... 

The art for this series continues to be on point with fantastic character designs, not to mention settings and backdrops and the bright colour pages! 

This volume brings much hilarity...who knew cleaning a pool could turn in to such a calamity!? Although it should be expected at this school, let's be real! More importantly this volume, Sports Day is here and things won't go well for poor old Haruaki if his class comes in last. Because of course there's a consequence if you lose...it wouldn't be ghoul school otherwise! 

One aspect of this volume that I enjoyed was getting to meet a few new Youkai, all members of Haruaki's class. Specifically Maida, a merman who can swim through the air, and Kurahashi who can predict misfortune...and we all know Haruaki...he just can't help himself even if it screams bad idea. 

I kind of thought Haruaki was completely stuffed this volume, he has to strategise and plot...but he's actually kind of good at it. He makes sure his students use their powers to the full, so we get to see quite the display of magic during this Sports Day arc...not to mention the Headmaster makes an interesting comment about Haruaki...alluding to some other person. 

Anyway, I think we all know this Sports Day isn't going to be a regular Sports Day, there's plenty of supernatural twists to keep us entertained. Watching all of the characters come together and work as a team was actually a little bit heartwarming....and just plain hilarious at the same time. Especially at the end when they had to motivate Haruaki and it seemed deathly serious and I was tense and on edge....but then a certain reveal happened and I actually snorted because...of course. Either way it was Haruaki's time to shine this volume and I actually felt quite proud of him! 

Honestly I wasn't entirely too sure which way the Sports Day thing was going to go, I don't expect this series to have our MC's class actually win like most other series, so it could have gone a number of ways. They could have won, they could have lost, they could have come in somewhere in the middle, I was genuinely gripped to see how it would play out!

Aside from the hilarity of Sports Day we also have Youkai TV wanting to do a documentary on Haruaki, which provided even more humour as the class tries to help make him look good. Although ti has to be said...Sano really packs a verbal punch. 

Volume 3 is a fast paced volume that's action packed, full of humour hugely entertaining with some heart warming moments thrown in too, as we see the class grow ever closer with their long suffering teacher, and how far they've come as a team. Plus, if three different story arcs weren't enough for you in one volume, we have a hilarious bonus chapter to tide us over until next volume! 

Plus, like I've said before, you can't convince me there isn't something bigger coming with this series. First the anti-youkai power, and then the mysterious comments about Haruaki being like "him". I'm fairly sure this series is leading up to something...but what? And if it isn't...I guess I'm just Boo Boo the Fool.

Haruaki Abe is the kind of guy who wouldn't say boo to a goose. But when he starts his teaching career at a high school full of creatures that go bump in the night, he soon discovers that his students have no such qualms, and they'll have him screaming "eeeeeeek"! 

This volume takes us on quite the journey with the characters, as we start off with the youkai enduring "Physical Fitness Day", which is kind of hilarious with the eyesight tests and the animal youkai having to get shots and poor old Haruaki having to help out. Then the class get to go on a field trip to the real world for a spooking lesson which as you can imagine...is all kinds of hilarious and it was fun to see the youkai using their different powers! 

Haruaki takes the opportunity to head off home and the kids lecturing him about what not to do was funny AF. What was even funnier was them following him and mistaking his brother for him, and his brother acting all cool and they're like "Don't you dare sully our Seimei-kun's name" or at least, Maizuka was, and he was hilarious. 

Sano and Haruaki are trying to hide his families origins from the others, and his mother is in on the plan too. His brother is not happy with the situation in general and is very protective of Haruaki. Which is why he has an issue with the students getting roped in to helping out with the festival. Hijita, Maizuka, Sano and Zashiki all end up at Haruaki's home and get to meet his family but his brother tries to throw them out and make Haruaki quit....hinting at something dark to do with Haruaki's power in the process. 

We get some insight in to Haruaki and why he has no friends...I'm looking at you Ame. Ame also provides us with some interesting information on Haruaki's power and how strong it is and where it came from. I was hoping there would actually be some weight to his power, and it might have a part to play in the plot rather than being a throwaway mention in one volume, and it would seem like my hopes are coming true. Which I'm excited to see! There's humour, but it seems like there's going to be some serious substance to the plot other than just humorous antics, which I don't have a problem with, but I'm intrigued to see what could happen when his power is brought in to pay. 

Sano, in his own way, was quite heart warming this volume, offering to look out for Haruaki, he's a big softy really! There was so very nearly a heart warming moment towards the end, before it got turned in to a gag, which kind of made it funnier to be honest! 

Volume 2 is another hilarious volume, with hints at an interesting heritage for Haruaki, not to mention his powers! We also get a look at his family and the dynamics between them all that have shaped him in to the character he is, plus the students are a bit more soft than they appear at first glance!

So, these slice of life/school kind of manga aren't usually my thing, I usually can't get in to them or I get kind of bored. But this one caught my attention because of the Youkai, I really do love anything with Youkai in it, I'm not going to lie! Plus this sounded like it was going to be a lot of fun, and I really wasn't disappointed! 

The volume has some gorgeous and colourful....you know, colour pages! Plus the art is cute while still having a nice amount of detail! I really enjoyed the way the characters where drawn, and the expressions where entertaining! 

Haruaki, our main character was just hilarious! I kinda felt for the poor guy, I mean it would be a terrifying situation but he was hilariously cowardly about the whole thing. Sano was oddly hilarious in a mildly scary way and his interactions with Haruaki where entertaining throughout. He's also somewhat of a mystery and I'm intrigued to learn more about him. Mame is a little s***, I'm not going to lie, but he's plenty entertaining too. Hijita I wasn't too sure of at first, but he's another entertaining character and I enjoy his interactions with Haruaki immensely! Zashiki completed our little squad of Haruaki's.....buddies? Students who tolerate him? I'm not sure what the term I'm looking for is. Anyway, Zashiki is was relatable AF! These guys appear to be our main characters, and the ones Haruaki interacts with the most, but I'm looking forward to hopefully getting to see more of the students throughout the series! 

This series is kind of ridiculously hilarious, I found myself chuckling at Haruaki's antics throughout the volume, it was hard not to! The other teachers are a bit sinister at times, with their talk of 'keeping him close' and I'm interested to see how that storyline might go! We get a nice amount of information on Youkai, which personally, was fun to read about because I love that stuff! 

I wasn't entirely sure what to expect when I went in to this, but I was pleasantly surprised at the plot twist regarding Haruaki and what he can do and I'm interested to see if that's going to have a bigger role to play throughout the series. I'm usually 50/50 with slice of life kind of manga, like I said, but the Youkai drew me in and this first volume was hilarious, a lot of fun and just entertaining in general! I can't wait to see more of their antics and meet more of the youkai!
