An earthly nourris sits and sings
And aye she sings, "Ba lilly wean,
Little ken I my bairn's father,
Far less the land that he staps in.
(Child Ballad, no. 113)

So begins a stunning tale of love, loss and revenge, against a powerful backdrop of adventure on the high seas, and drama on the land. The Blue Salt Road balances passion and loss, love and violence and draws on nature and folklore to weave a stunning modern mythology around a nameless, wild young man.

Passion drew him to a new world, and trickery has kept him there - without his memories, separated from his own people. But as he finds his way in this dangerous new way of life, so he learns that his notions of home, and your people, might not be as fixed as he believed.

I love all things mythology, and I love Harris's books! I've always loved her Norse Mythology books and I've been so excited for this! I've read some books with selkie lore in before, and I was excited to see what Harris was going to do with it so I eagerly dived in to this book and it's short but sweet! It also has some completely gorgeous illustrations throughout it!

I loved the storytelling and the fairy tale like tone to it, I was fascinated by the folklore. I got so in to this book that I was getting kind of pissy on the selkies behalf to be honest. I was just as horrified as him when he realised what had happened, and I was just as "woah" as the characters when certain discoveries were made. I was even surprised by the ending because I thought it was going to end a certain way...but the selkie completely surprised me with his choice and I was kind of like....really dude!?
